4th Generation K-pop Artists With Potential to Become ‘Nation’s Boy/Girl Group’

K-pop is currently in its fourth generation, and entertainment companies continue to debut new artists in the music scene. In the past generations, there was always this group that earned the title “Nation’s Boy Group” or “Nation’s Girl Group” because of their overwhelming popularity in Korea. In the current generation, many K-pop groups have shown their potential to earn those titles, and among them are the artists listed below.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER or simply TXT is one of the top fourth-generation K-pop boy groups in Korea. How so? Well, they were able to enter MelOn 24Hits chart multiple times, and we all know that it is difficult to enter MelOn charts as it is the largest music streaming site in Korea and not only K-pop songs are available on the platform.

As a matter of fact, TXT is the very first fourth-generation boy group to ever enter MelOn 24Hits chart. They managed to do it with “Blue Hour” back in October 2020.

This year, TXT showed how much their fanbase in Korea grew by selling more than copies of their new mini-album “minisode 2: Thursday’s Child.”

Stray Kids is another 4th generation K-pop artist with the best chance to be nicknamed “Nation’s Boy Group.” Why? Well, the boy group has now sold over millions of copies of their albums in South Korea alone. Their second full album “NOEASY” and sixth mini-album “ODDINARY,” in particular, each sold over 1.4 million copies in the country.

What’s more, Stray Kids is really popular in the West. And being famous in America is very prestigious in Korean public eyes. For instance, BTS became the nation’s pride after winning at Billboard Music Awards.

Despite being only a two-year-old K-pop boy group, ENHYPEN has made history numerous times in terms of album sales, Billboard debuts, and more. Also, whenever they make a comeback, they always manage to enter domestic charts, including MelOn.

In fact, their 2022 song “Polaroid Love” has become the first and only fourth-generation K-pop boy group song to spend more than 200 consecutive days on MelOn Daily Chart.

In addition, ENHYPEN is the first fourth-generation K-pop group to have two albums that each exceed one million sales on both Hanteo and Circle charts.

When it comes to 4th generation K-pop artists that have the potential to become the “Nation’s Girl Group,” one of the top candidates is aespa. The quartet has several achievements in Korea, and one of them is their remake song “Next Level,” which topped the MelOn 24Hits chart, which is based on unique listeners. So this means they already have support from the general public.

What’s more, aespa is the best-selling fourth-generation K-pop girl group in South Korea as of August with more than 2.5 million copies sold since their debut.

People paid lots of attention to STAYC when they were about to debut as it was revealed that they were formed by Black Eyed Pilseung, who is a well-renowned hitmaker duo. Just a few of the works they produced are TWICE’s “TT,” SISTAR’s “Touch My Body,” and Apink’s “Only One.”

Because of the songs produced by Black Eyed Pilseung for STAYC, the girl group often enters domestic charts like MelOn and would even score highest debuts among fourth-generation groups.

Being under JYP Entertainment, which is known as a company that never had a flop girl group, ITZY is also considered a 4th generation K-pop artist that has the chance to be called “Nation’s Girl Group.” With every comeback, the girls just keep on breaking their own personal records and even records of other fourth-gen groups.

For example, ITZY’s debut song “DALLA DALLA” has become the fourth-generation K-pop song with the highest unique listeners on Genie as of August with over 2.5 million unique listeners. To recall, “DALLA DALLA” made ITZY the fastest K-pop girl group to win a music show trophy (9 days). They held this record for three years until VIVIZ and IVE broke it.

Which other fourth-generation K-pop groups should also be on the list? Name them in the comment box below!
