The K-pop industry is cutthroat. Every year, dozens of K-pop groups make their debut, but only a handful are able to gain attention from fans and remain in the industry long enough to fully establish their career. Needless to say, aside from the music, it is also a battle for popularity. While some groups gain popularity and attention with the help of their agencies, some are due to a group’s member!
With that, here are some of the K-pop idols who made their groups more popular!

Billlie made their debut under Mystic Story back in November 2021. While the group’s members were already introduced to the public even before they made their debut due to their participation on survival programs, which gained them a good amount of following already, Japanese member Tsuki helped boost Billlie’s popularity greatly.
During the group’s promotions for “GingaMingaYo (the strange world),” Tsuki went viral for her amazing facial expressions, which boosted the song’s popularity as well.

IVE made their debut back in December 2021 under Starship Entertainment. Right off the bat, the group experienced immense popularity and cemented themselves as a top girl group from the fourth generation. In addition to their addicting songs, the group also features former IZ*ONE members Jang Wonyoung and Ahn Yujin.
Both the idols were immensely popular during their promotions with IZ*ONE, so it’s not a surprise that their popularity followed when they re-debuted with IVE.

LE SSERAFIM debuted back in May of this year. Aside from the controversy surrounding the group at the time, the group gained attention for being the first girl group HYBE debuted since GLAM, as well as the first since Source Music debuted GFRIEND.
While these alone brought attention to LE SSERAFIM, the girl group’s popularity skyrocketed with as it also featured two former IZ*ONE members, Miyawaki Sakura and Kim Chaewon!

DKZ was originally named DONGKIZ and had made their debut back in April 2019. From the early days of their debut, the group didn’t gather as much attention as one would hope. But it wasn’t until 2022 that the group finally began drawing attention.
A big factor to DKZ’s rise in popularity is thanks to member Jaechan, who starred in the highly successful BL (boys love) drama, Semantic Error. His newfound fame for starring in the drama eventually led to fans discovering that he is an idol, which drew attention to the group.
5. Lapillus Chanty

MLD Entertainment debuted their girl group Lapillus back in June of this year. The rookie girl group gained a significant amount of attention when it was revealed that a Filipina-Argentinian, Chanty, would be debuting with Lapillus.
Naturally, the group caught the attention and support of Filipino fans because of Chanty. Not only that, but she also brought along a significant following as she was already an actress and model in the Philippines prior to debuting with the group.
