“Because the passion on the set of the final round was so heated, it seems he momentarily got confused,” they added. “We apologize to the viewers and to the sponsor.”

The issue came to light when Kang Daniel was hosting the live broadcast of the final episode of Mnet’s dance competition show “Street Man Fighter” on Nov. 8. The idol took a moment to thank the sponsors of the program after the final battle ended- but left viewers surprised when he named the wrong brand.

While the show’s main sponsor is Seagram, Kang Daniel mentioned rival brand Trevi instead. He said, “I’d also like to thank our sponsor. Trevi tastes great!” He then continued, “I’m just joking. But I’m half-sincere.”

A broadcasting official criticized him for his mistake, commenting, “The MC doesn’t even know his ‘fundamentals’.”

An advertising industry official said, “What advertisers want isn’t politeness. But we want at least not to be disrespected. They added, “I’ve never seen in the broadcasting history an MC who complimented a competitor brand.”

Mnet also responded to the issue, saying that they will remove Kang Daniel’s comment from the replay of the finale of “Street man Fighter” and will add background music. They also stated that the idol’s last scene on the show will be edited and re-broadcast.

Despite apologizing for his mistake, the male soloist continues to receive hate from K-netizens, who wonder how the artist made the mistake of saying the wrong brand name when the names don’t even sound similar.

Some netizens said that Kang may not become an MC anymore, while others commented that he should have prepared more since it was a live broadcast. One netizen also stated that the fact that he said “half-sincere” is more of a turn off to Seagram.

Here are some of their reactions:

“I don’t think we’ll see him as the main MC ever again. He talks so thoughtlessly. He’s lucky he wasn’t sued.”

“I hope he isn’t chosen to be the main MC anymore.”

“He may not appear as MC on any shows anymore.”

“He knows it’s a live broadcast, he should have prepared better.”

“What kind of excuse is that? He should have prepared more.”

“The way he said that he’s ‘half-sincere’ is even more of a turn off to Seagram.”

“A joke? Half-sincere? Seriously, he has no manners whatsoever.”

“I can understand if he made a mistake of mentioning something that sounds like Seagram but he said something that doesn’t even sound like it.”
